2016 endorsee Rep. Cynthia Ball (HD49, Democratic Whip), top challengers Terri LeGrand (SD31), Ricky Hurtado (HD63), & Brian Farkas (HD9), award-winning NC instrumentalist Rod Abernethy. 

Terri LeGrand (SD31, Winston-Salem) came to Winston-Salem to attend law school at Wake Forest University and has put her law degree to work advocating for women, children, families, environmental causes. She’s also spent years ensuring students have the resources they need to pursue dreams of higher education.

Ricky Hurtado (HD63, Burlington) is a first-generation college graduate and the son of working-class immigrants. As a Professor at UNC and leader of an education initiative supporting first-generation college students and immigrant families, he’s fighting to ensure everyone has a fair shot to thrive.

Brian Farkas (HD9, Greenville) is active in the business and civic community in his native Pitt County, where he ran in 2016 in a formerly gerrymandered district. He’s worked with the National Institute of Environmental Health Science specializing in emergency management, and with JFK Architecture, a family business.
